Founded in 2005 as a not-for-profit corporation and bestowed the tax exempt status of a 501(c)3 public charity, the mission of the Cattlemen’s Texas Longhorn Conservancy is to engage in scientific and historical research, education and other charitable purposes associated with the conservation of original Texas Longhorn cattle.
The Cattlemen's Texas Longhorn Conservancy is hosting Longhorn Hero, a cowboy chic farm-to-table experience at Cielito Lindo Ranch near Wimberley, Texas. A Texas Longhorn beef dinner will be served on the lawn adjacent to the pasture with cattle for guests to hand-feed and take photos with living Texas history. The evening will begin at 6:00 with appetizers and beer and wine, a silent auction and visit with the cattle. The entrée will be served at 7:00 followed by announcing the winners of the silent auction before the movie begins. There will be popcorn for the movie. Coffee, iced tea and water will also be available. A tent will provide a darkened area to view the film before the sky becomes completely dark. It will also serve as shelter from moisture in event of rain. Please join us for a fun-filled summer evening and maybe even learn a little something about conserving heritage breeds. Be a Longhorn Hero. Reserve your seat at the Longhorn Hero Farm-To-Table Experience on June 26, 2021 by using the Donate button below to make your $50 per person donation. Payment is secured through PayPal. Please complete the guest contact information when redirected after payment. The redirect from the PayPal page with an illustration of people waving, saying 'thank you' will take approximately 15 seconds to take you to the Longhorn Hero confirmation page with a link to a map to the event and form to complete your guests' names. When you submit the form, we will receive the names of guests in your party and your contac information. We will have your name badges at check-in.

Texas’s original beef breed, the original CTLR Texas Longhorn is now on the Livestock Conservancy’s List of 150 Critically Endangered Heritage Breeds. Once numbering in the tens of millions, the CTLR Texas Longhorn’s population is estimated at only 3,000 animals, worldwide. Cattleman’s Texas Longhorn Conservancy (CTLC) works closely with Cattleman’s Texas Longhorn Registry (CTLR), the ONLY Texas Longhorn breeders group dedicated to the preservation and conservation of the historically correct, genetically pure Texas Longhorn and supports The Livestock Conservancy. Historically correct, genetically pure Texas Longhorn cattle are declared Critically Endangered by the Livestock Conservancy. CTLR Texas Longhorn beef was named to the Slow Food USA Ark of Taste in 2016.
Imported to the Western Hemisphere more than five hundred years ago by the earliest Spanish explorers, the Texas Longhorn played a significant role in the history of the Americas and became recognized as North America’s original bovine. Nearly cross-bred into extinction following the great Western trail drives, the Texas Longhorn was acknowledged as a national treasure by the U.S. Congress, which in 1927 established a protected herd on the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. The Cattlemen’s Texas Longhorn Conservancy recognizes the value of this national treasure in its original phenotype (appearance) and genotype (genetics) and is intended to provide ongoing resources toward research and education pertaining to this naturally evolved, historic breed.
